Command Lines is an exhibition by artist Candida Powell-Williams which was on display at Void Gallery from 25th June – 24th August 2019. The preview took place on Friday 21st June to coincide with Summer Solstice. As part of the preview, there was a performance choreographed by the artist. Animating the sculptural forms, the dancers configured and reconfigured architectural structures found in the artist’s invented tarot cards. Set to meditation music and metamorphosed between each tableaux, dancers pierced and divided the space in a choreography inspired by spiritualist diagrams.
Thank you to everyone who attended Command Lines. The show was a huge success, with over 1,300 participants, including visitors for a week of events in support of Foyle Pride Festival and a finissage outdoor live performance by Candida Powell-Williams and Echo Echo on the Derry Walls as part of the Walls 400 celebrations. A big thank you to the Derry Walls and the Siege Museum for working with Void to make this event such a success.
We also welcomed award-winning Derry company Kippie who ran a very popular Digital Art Workshop and we ran our inaugural Youth Art Competition as part of the Youth 19 festival ran by Derry City and Strabane District Council as well as our very first Void Tots workshops for 1-5 year olds, The Art Factory Bootcamp with artist facilitator Karen Cassidy, and a drawing workshop with Stephanie Gaumond.
